Day 3 - Australia

May,Wednesday 30th

Activities
  • Australian Dot Painting of a story on a boomerang and telling the story ( Aboriginal dot painting can be traced back to the regions of the central and western parts of the Outback (desertic area). The aboriginals would clear some land of all bush and use sand, rocks, plants, feathers and seeds in order to tell a story. Each shape represented a different thing, and they were all used to tell a story.) Students were given a boomerang, paints and brushes, they had to give the boomerang one first paint coating, then think of a story, paint it on the boomerang using the dot technique and then retelling it to the rest of the people in their groups.

  • Bank: Changing money and buying at the shop while sports assistants taught a sport on the field: Capture the flag and Splat.

Day 2- United States of America

May, Tuesday 29th

  •  Dodge Ball ( ball game)

  • Pie Eating Contest among groups
    Treasure Hunt (finding the counsellor by following clues in a map that they had put together as a puzzle).
  • The producers of the Amazing Race film participants' presentations. (Students were encouraged to take part in the camp  as characters they created for themselves. They had to wear costumes and speak like the characters they had chosen. They had to introduce themselves, say their age, their hometown, why they were taking part in the race and what they would do if they won the money of the price.)

  • While presentations were being filmed, other students played Baseball, Kick Ball and Slaughter( contestants are made to play 4 against 4. They have to stand on their knees within a rectangle and try to score a goal on the opposite side by touching the ground with the ball. Students have to prevent this by pushing their opponents out of the field).



  • Before dinner counsellors get together with the students they had selected for each job (Magazine interviews, sports assistants, shop assistants, entertainers, servers (writing menues), TV hosts to instruct them about what they would be doing later.

  • Presentation of the Amazing  Race videos (TV hosts present the race, characters taking part in the race introduce themselves).


  • Entertainers imitate their counsellors





  • Traditional American dances and Winks. (Counsellors teach some groups typical dances  while the other groups play Winks at another premise (  One student in the group is a murderer and another one is a policeman. The murderer has to kill as many people as he can by winking at them before being discovered by the policeman.) Then the groups take turns to both dance and play.




Once the activities are over they have Hot Chocolate with Apple pie with cinnamon and raisins and chocolate cake to celebrate one of the students' birthday.

Day 1- United Kingdom

THE AMAZING RACE


May, Monday 28th
Activities
  • Students take an oath not to speak Spanish throughout the whole camp)
  • They go through Customs ( They get any material written in Spanish confiscated)



  • They are divided into groups and are assigned a counsellor each to be responsible for them.
  • They name their own groups Blueberries (blue team) , Red shark kingdom (red team), Orange ananas (orange team), Amazing grapes (violet team), Green Fish (green team), (yellow team)

  • Some Warmers are played so that they get to know each other

  • Students compete throughout three days to win The Amazing Race. The Amazing Race is a popular reality TV show in which contestants race around the world in competition with other teams. In this English Immersion Camp students race through 3 exciting countries ( The United Kingdom, The United States and Australia) while native speakers test their skills in various challenges based on diverse aspects of culture in each country such as sports, traditions, famous people, food, dance, music,etc.
  • They run a Relay Race (Students in their teams strive to arrive first at "pit stops". They get to the first" pit stop" running as wheelbarrows, in the second " pit stop" they have to fill an empty glass with water by running with a cup that they fill in a bucket until the glass is full to the brim, Then they have to run with tied ankles to the third "pit stop", and in the fourth one they have to kick a ball and score a goal zigzaging among cones).


  • They go through interviews. While some students are participating in the relay race, others are being interviewed for different jobs that they will be performing on the following days. They have to apply for one of these jobs: journalists for The Amazing Race Magazine, Hosts for the Amazing Race TV show, Sports Assistants, Shop  Assistants, Servers, Bankers and Entertainers. Students have to fill in an application form and face an interview to see if they are fit for the jobs they have selected.

Camp fire
After dinner a bonfire is made around which the different groups are made to guide the other participants into performing dances and singing typical campfire songs. 


Students are invited to eat Marshmallows ( they roast a sandwich made of cookies, marshmallows and a piece of chocolate in the fire)
